Women earn usually less then men and are not really in the board rooms of the big corps. Except at Grant Thornton:

Game Tester

November 7th, 2011 by admin

If you think an office job is something you are not interested in, then it’s your right to refuse to get into it. If you still will have a successful career, depends on whether you’ve got another passion besides not sitting in an office from 9 to 5 all year.

One of the most interesting “new” job careers are beta tester for games. I am sure many in college or high-school dream of going down that path.

But it’s not as easy as it used to be and salaries are not that great either: $1500= $3000/month is what the average game tester gets pads. The top senior guys make about $4k/month, which starts being respectable.

But the perks are amazing:

1. Play as long as you want
2. Get paid to play unreleased games all day (and not talking Tetris here)
3. Get the foot in the door of one of the most fascinating industries
4. Have fun all day

Happy New Year And Moving To Wilmington

January 1st, 2011 by admin

So 2011 finally arrived and me and the family made the decision to move to North Carolina. We are not fans of the UK or the East Coast anymore, so North Carolina will be it.

We’ve been debating for quite a while and at the end we’ve decided to make the move, b/c of the job situation, the weather and the school system.

We weren’t sure which city to pick, but my wife got an offer at the Gem Studios, so it was pretty much a no brainer for us to decide that Wilmington will be it..

Wilmington is known for being a historic city and Cape Fear River, Wrightsville Beachh….and since Michael Jordan is from there it’s a no brainer for us to move there. I am sure the kids will have some motivation to play basketball.

Well enough said…it’ll be slow posting for a bit. We’ll have to deal with the Wilmington, NC real estate broker firms. Enjoy the Top 100 funniest job ads until then.

Replacing A Circuit Breaker

December 10th, 2010 by admin

So…this week I had an issue in my house and needed to replace a circuit breaker. To be exact…I need once of those square d circuit breakers.

Well said, but how the hell do I do that. So I look at one of those DIY sites….well…looked and then tried to do it:

1. Taking panel cover off – done

2. Remember the two wires feeding into the side of the breaker – done

3. Loosen the screw holding the white wire – done

4. Put a wire nut on the white wire – done

5. Do the same thing with the colored wire – done

6. Pull old circuit breker out and replace

Done done and done. Any reason why people still hire electricians? EASY!

Jobs in German Speaking Countries

October 31st, 2010 by admin

After a friend told me that he’ll be moving to Frankfurt I had a closer look at the job market in Europe. Germany apparently is currently with an unemployment rate below 3 million people on a record low for this year. Medium-sized companies are pushing the industry forward and the big car manufacturerer and other mechanical engineering shops are desperately looking for talent. With the changing age structure of Germany (not enough newborns) it’s getting more and more difficult to find young talent. The baby boomer years are apparently over and salaries skyrocket.

In Vienna, Austria the story is not much different. Austria is very dependable on Germany (same language), not only for tourism. Companies such as BMW produce their cars in Austria and therefore the same effect happens over there.

Switzerland is a bit in a different. The banking sector is back up, but still the issues from the financial crisis are hitting the country. On top the European Union and the US are pressuring Switzerland to open up their banks. Too much money has been stored in Switzerland for them to just give it up.
Otherwise tourisma and a bunch of other industries are working quite well. Salaries are usual higher than in Germany. Taxes usually are pretty low

Not a bad timing to consider moving to Europe. Website like Jobscout24.at or Monster.de can help finding the right job

Looking for the best computer technicians in XY

October 13th, 2010 by admin

Pulling off weird job descriptions is something I never understood, but it seems to work great. People tend to believe fake job ads quite more than simple advertising.

It’s not rare that companies search for the best plumbers or the best computer technicians in Atlanta and applicants just apply without doing any resarch. Advertisers understood that and in the old days used printed ads job listings to get cheaper and better performing ads.

Anyways…my favorite job description is by far this one:

“Make sure nothing ever happens: IT Security”

This probably applies also to a ton of government jobs :)

Jobs For Fitness Addicts

August 15th, 2010 by admin

I am always stunned of what a variety of jobs exist….and never sure why so many people still have a hard time finding a job. I know that the economy is still down, but even if I am a Fitness buff, who likes the gym, tanning and so on… I still can find a job in the Fitness industry.

The home fitness industry seems to be resistant to a declining econonomy. More than ever people order Fitness Equipment online or just head in the gym.

Smoothfitness for examle is looking for Technicians, who can troubleshoot electro mechanical issues and work with a minimum supervision.

Hell…..what job can be better than that. You are able to hang out with hot girls in a gym, get to work out for free and have no supervision.

Another job I saw is Fitness “animateur” (sound French) in the Robinson Club. Not only get you hot and rich girls, but also can see them in bikinis.

Well whatever…just another rant on this blog.

Be an artist not a talker

February 7th, 2010 by admin

Interesting book from marketing Legend Seth Godin: Linchpin: Are you indispensable?
As far as I’ve read the reviews, the book basically tells employees to stop expecting and instead being an artist of what they are doing. Even if it is the waitress in a coffee shop. Everybody should be an artist of what they are doing.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the book. Should be a great read.
