Ever wondered what your colleagues names means?

Posted in Offtopic at 7:19 pm by admin

This is a littel offtopic, but I was always curious of some of my colleagues names. Especially since there are quite a few names, which I have never heard before. So there are a few name meanings websites out there, but unfortunately not all of them don’t really have a big database of what I was searching for.

Here a few good ones, that I’ve figured out:

Aarkarshan means attraction

Damian means sweet and harmless

Zoey means life

Ailish  means noble, kind

Fun stuff for a boring and cold New Years day :)

Working in exhibition- and fair-construction

Posted in Offtopic at 11:59 am by admin

Exhibition:
Working in this industry is like being a construction worker but instead of houses your furnishing rooms, committing to fixtures and displaying stands for conferences, large public exhibitions, displays for businesses, galleries, libraries, and museums. Their responsible for a lot of things, for example:

-Presenting their designs, models, and displays.
-Discussing their work with clients.
-finalizing.
-Overseeing their components construction work.
-Ordering needed supplies.

Exhibition designers start off as many different position such as, Industrial/product designer, graphic designer, or architect. To become an Exhibition Designer you need to have skills in conceptual designing, Computer Aided Designer, 3D-Visualization, and model making. If your lucky they may give you a chance at it if you dont have ALL of the required skills/training but rarely will they over look that.

Education/Degrees Needed:
You need to have your Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree or Associates Degree in Design, in order to become a Exhibition Designer. There are also special schools to study Exhibition Design.

Income: Exhibition Designing industry pays fairly good. Every year you would receive about $35,890 on average. That a pretty good amount of cash depending on your rent, you bills, and the money spent on other billings. Also depending on where you live will be what you consider to see if almost $40,000 a year is comfortable living for you or not.

In this Industry they begin by collaborating with directors, study and determine the correct style for their preferred set, research architects design and models then take their information but, tweak it into their very own personalized final set for display. They are also responsible for ordering and setting up furniture, wall coverings, props, and other furnishing equipment that they are instructed to by their directors and clients. Some employers hire designers for this industry as part of a team or as an individual, depending on your skills and education/training.

I think this is an awesome industry for people who are very creative, if you like to doodle, draw, sculpt, or construct things this is the job for you, decent amount of money and your time will be spent well doing something you love then something you hate.

Hosting move

Posted in Offtopic at 5:40 pm by admin

First…apologies for the slowness of this website in the past few months. I finally got a chance to move this blog of Godaddy, one of the cheap web hosting solutions out there. Finding the right hosting solutions is getting harder and harder. I’ve tried 1&1, Godaddy, Bluehost, Westhost, Dreamhost and a bunch of others. Some servers of Dreamhost are working great. Some others just slow down all the time and it drives me absolutely insane.

That said, we’ll see where we are heading to with this. There is a good chance that one day I’ll have to switch again. However, traffic so far has been steady and I am looking forward to grow this blog now.

Job Losses Across The Board

Posted in Offtopic at 6:24 pm by admin

Not sure why the news are so crazy out there, but a quick few at Google news today sounds extremely scary:

Chrylser Financial cuts 240 jobs in Overland Park center

British Lloyds bank slashes 2100 jobs

Metro Milwaukee losing jobs faster than most in Midwest

Alabama’s Jefferson County Cuts 1000 jobs to stay solvent

Joost.com cuts 100 jobs

SKF to cut a further 900 jobs

3M eliminates another 1000 jobs

I really hope that we’ll move forward and get the economy out of the crisis soon. This all sounds scary!

Tech Jobs Still Strong

Posted in Offtopic at 6:29 pm by admin

Finally a little better news: IT employment is holding up better than most other industries.
According to the Cyberstates report 382,000 high-tech jobs were created in the past 4 years in the United States. Alon 77000 were created in 2008. It’s  down from the 139000 new jobs in 2006, but with 5.9 million U.S. workers it’s still pretty cool.

Overall I hope that IT employment will still grow and move forward. It’s just such a fascinating industry.
