Brand new study from the guys from Experteer.co.uk:
According to research released today by executive jobs website, Experteer.co.uk, the busiest hour for online job searches is 3pm on a Thursday…..The study found that even in the economic downturn, job seekers prefer to keep their weekends free for personal time, with Saturdays and Sundays remaining the least popular days for job hunting across Europe. Less than one in five searches is done at weekends in the UK (15%), Germany (15%), France (18%) and Switzerland (18%), and less than a quarter in Italy (23%). Considerably fewer searches are also done on Fridays in all of the countries, suggesting job hunters are busy planning their weekends or tying off the working week.”
I guess most bosses now know what to do around 3pm Thursdays

Before the bubble burst, this is how Monster.com – world’s largest job site, was presenting themselves. What a change 10 years later

Pretty crazy article over at MSNBC. A 43-year old man in downtown Tampa holds a huge sign trying to find a job.
He’s given up on trying to find a job on Monster, b/c according to him there are “hundreds of people applying for the same job there”.

It’s quite a unique phenomen that a worldwide recession helps social businessnetworks like Linkedin and Xing to grow exponentially.
According to Comscore Linkedin US is up 22 percent in traffic with 7.7 million unique visitor in Decemeber.
The totally minutes spent on the site doubled in January to 96.8 million. I am pretty sure that Xing doesn’t look much different.
I haven’t compared these numbers with sites like Monster, Carreerbuilder or Indeed, but I would not be surprised if the traffic of these social networks increased far mor than the ones of the traditional job sites.

Having worked in the classified space I am quite surprised that Oodle raises $5.6 million. Oodle is still clearly far behind Craigslist and sites like Backpage are on the same level as oodle without raising all that money.
Also if you look worldwide, Oodle did not make quite an impact. Kijiji, which belongs to Ebay, is ruling most of the world. Other niche players like Vivastreet, Campusanuncios, Stadlist, Markt.de are running the show in local markets.
Job marketwise I don’t see why to hit Oodle. The high-end jobs are listed at Theladders, Experteer, Placement24….the average IT jobs can be found at Simply Hired, Indeed and the average Joe lists with Monster, Careerbuilder, Stepstone and Hotjobs.
So the low end MLM job listings are left.
I certainly don’t hope that, but unless Oodle finds a way to increase partnerships such the one with Facebook, I don’t see a future for this company.

Yaaze is a new startups in the online employment space in looks pretty interesting since it mixes job search with social networking. You can create your profile, add your skills with pictures and resume and allow employers to search for potential employees by skill, are, location, and resume.
More personalization, pictures….let’s see how that turns out. Quite interesting idea.
