Modeling Geologist – a job which saves you the walk to Zales
It’s pretty cool to see what jobs are out there. Monster has a pretty interesting job for a geologist, whhose role will manage the geological and metal resources.
For the average Joe this probably means that the are looking for someone, who will plan and stragetize a diamond or gold mine.
Not really unusual, but the reqquirements are pretty interesting as well:
Modeling Geologist – Mine – Kennecott Utah Copper
Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation (KUCC), a world-class mining and mineral processing company, in Salt Lake City, Utah, is searching for a Modeling Geologist to work in the Geologic Services group at its Bingham Canyon Mine.
The Modeling Geologist role will manage (create, update, and review) the geological and metal resource models. These models are critical in understanding and planning the extraction of the resource.
Additional duties include:
- Manage and update geologic/structure model with new drillhole/mapping information quarterly.
- Update of the 3D geologic solid model yearly.
- Review and update geologic model with blasthole assays weekly
- Manage borehole location, deviation, geologic and assay information with current models.
Verify data loaded into databases.
- Modify mine geology model to geology pit mapping and geological updates completed by
the mapping team.
- Process of the Adamtech imagery. Create 3D models from images.
- Assist in yearly resource model updates.
- Geologic pit mapping.
- Develop and maintain appropriate project documentation

- Perform special projects; e.g. slope audits, drilling supervision, generation of
geologic cross sections, etc.
- Interact with mine groups: geologists, mine engineers and planners, geotechnical engineers,
Rio Tinto T&I, Resource Development, etc.
- Liaise with third party consultants, Rio Tinto T&I, and technical consultants.
- Work in safe manner and promote safety culture through company programs.
- Participation in the Rio Tinto Collaborative Forums.
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in geology or related field
- 3 years relevant geological and mining experience
- 1-2 year relevant geologic modelingExperience in mine geology modeling
- Experience in open pit mine environment
- Familiarity with porphyry-Cu geology setting preferred
